Privacy

Privacy policy.

Last updated: 13 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information JJ Websites collects through this website, why, and what your rights are. It is written to be read, not to hide anything.

Who I am

JJ Websites is run by Jake Johnson, a sole trader based in Leeds, UK. I am the data controller for the information described here. You can contact me about anything in this policy at hello@jjwebsites.co.uk.

What I collect

  • Enquiry details. If you use the contact form or email me, I receive what you send: your name, business name, email address, what you need and your message.
  • Client and billing details. If we work together, I hold the details needed to do the work and invoice you: your name, business name, email address, billing address, what was agreed and a record of invoices and payments. Payments are taken by PayPal, so I never see or store your card or bank details.
  • Technical information. Like almost every website, the servers that deliver this site automatically record basic details of each visit, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested. These logs are used to keep the site secure and running.

I do not ask for sensitive information, and you should not include any in an enquiry.

Why I use it, and the legal basis

  • To reply to your enquiry and discuss a project. The legal basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, and my legitimate interest in responding to people who contact me.
  • To carry out the work, invoice you and take payment. The legal basis is our contract. I also keep invoice records because tax law requires it.
  • To keep the website secure and available. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in protecting the site from misuse and attack.

I do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or add you to a mailing list.

Cookies and tracking

This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising or tracking tools, which is why you are not shown a cookie banner. It does not store anything in your browser.

Everything on this website, including its typeface, is served from the website itself. Your browser is not sent to any other company when you visit. The one exception is the contact form: when you press send, your enquiry is delivered to me by Formspree, a form-handling service.

If you pay an invoice online, you do so on PayPal’s own pages, which use PayPal’s cookies under PayPal’s privacy policy.

Who it is shared with

Your information is only shared with the service providers needed to run this website and my email, such as the hosting and email providers, Formspree (which delivers contact form enquiries to me), Zoho Invoice (which I use to prepare and send quotes and invoices) and PayPal (which takes payments). They process it on my behalf and only for those purposes. Some providers may store data outside the UK; where they do, they are required to protect it to an equivalent standard.

How long I keep it

Enquiries that do not lead to a project are deleted within 12 months. If we work together, I keep project correspondence and records for as long as I am providing a service to you, and for up to six years afterwards for tax and legal reasons. Server logs are kept for a short period and then deleted.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information I hold about you;
  • ask me to correct or delete it;
  • ask me to restrict how I use it, or object to my using it;
  • ask for it in a portable format.

To use any of these rights, email hello@jjwebsites.co.uk. I will respond within one month, and there is no charge.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, please contact me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date at the top.
